Exaggeration//Scanned Object

I really do not like how my exaggeration project turned out. I have used photoshop many times before, but have never drawn with it and it was very hard for me to do. It was also hard for me to come up with an idea for it. I like how my scanned objects turned out though, because I got to use my octopus cleverly, har har.

Einstein's Dreams

I decided to make stencils for my book project. For the cover, I spray painted all the stencils over top of each other. My first page I used Elain's masks; second page I used Robin's lightning bolt electricity things; third page I used Katie's second layer body; fourth page I used the text from Zack's shirt; fifth page I used Lauren's hair; and the final page I used Min's shapes. I really liked the freedom we had with this project cause we could all do things we were interested in which made it more fun to do. I am very happy with my results.

Triptych

I chose to base my project around the three people who have influenced the most important aspects of my life: art, writing, and thinking. I was never sure of anything until these three people changed my life. My grandfather is the reason I do art. My friend Scott is the reason I was inspired to write. My boyfriend has a lot to do with how I think and view the world. The quote I incorporated into the bottom of the piece has to do with how I view the world in every aspect. I feel like everything anyone does is tied together somehow. No matter where I go in life, I will always remember that everything I have ever done has led up to that exact moment and I won't regret things for even a second. I expect myself to go exactly where my experiences take me.

Illustrator Still Life

The items I picked up off the ground to use for this project were: a pine branch, an ivy leaf, a feather, a gum  band (yes, that's 'Pittsburghese"), and a feather. It was hard to find objects that weren't completely disgusting. This project was the first time I have ever really used Illustrator and I have to say, I didn't mind it. I think it's a fun program, but kind of difficult. I just have to get used to it I suppose. Originally, I had a much higher contrast background, but changed that after in-class critiques. I decided to make a colorful background because the assignment itself was fairly boring and tedious and Nat said to make it interesting.

Truth, Laugh, Lie

Overall, I liked this project. I think the whole concept of a truth, a laugh, and a lie is pretty personal to share with a class during one of the first days. A lot of people revealed more about themselves through the presentation of their project than the actual thing they created. I liked that everyone in the class approached the project differently, it made the projects more interesting than if everyone would have followed the same format. I was happy with the way my project turned out, though if I had to do it again I would probably have made something 3-D just because those seemed to be the most interesting projects.

I can be anything I want to.

I'm Robin and I'm not sure I will ever know who I am completely because I believe everyone is constantly changing. I might know who I am one day and have that thrown out the window the next after I have experienced something that changes my life. I love to write whenever I have the chance. I am normally very shy when you first meet me. That has a lot to do with me not trusting people very easily. I love music I guess most people would classify as 'indie.' Bands I can listen to anytime are Modest Mouse, Radiohead, Xiu Xiu, Against Me!, Broken Social Scene,  Sonic Youth, Animal Collective, and Explosions in the Sky. I could definitely list more, but you probably have never heard of them and wouldn't like them even if I helped you listen.

So how do I feel about art? I would say it's pretty obvious that I love creating art and being surrounded by it as much as possible. I guess that is what everyone here at Tyler is into, right? My favorite artist is Salvador Dali, which I hate to admit because so many people like him who know nothing about him. He was very egotistic and thought he was the best. I think if I ever met him, I probably wouldn't like the guy, but that doesn't take away from my love of his art work.

I came to Tyler because I had no other choice. I applied to two schools, the other being Columbus College of Art and Design. It was my top choice to go to Columbus, but financially I could not. I plan on transferring there though eventually. I'm really not sure what I want to do with an art degree. It is way too hard to live just making paintings. My fall-back plan for now is to just get my BFA and teach. I guess this post is me in the shortest form possible, but don't let first impressions be deceiving.
